The University of Stavanger has about 8000 students and 1000 administration, faculty and service staff. The University is organized in three Faculties and also includes two national centres of expertise.

In October 2005 an agreement between the University of Stavanger/IRIS and Proactima was signed. This agreement ensures a long-term professional commitment with regards to further development of risk management and societal risk disciplines. UiS/IRIS is the leading Norwegian academic institution within these disciplines, with an extensive research activity including more than 20 PhD scholarships.
